Dr. Keith is a EMDRIA certified EMDR psychotherapist with over twenty years experience in the mental health field. As a doctoral student, she benefited from EMDR therapy and quickly realized she wanted to incorporate this into her own practice. Dr. Keith completed EMDR training in 2016 and became certified in 2018. She has been offering extended session and trauma intensives since 2021.
Dr. Keith strives to create an intensive that recognizes the influence of culture and society on the system interpretation and holding of trauma. Each clients cultural perspective and experience is held with compassion and understanding with the roots of systemic trauma explored in each intensive. The experience of an intensive at The Rockbridge Wellness Group is welcoming, safe, and affirming for all BIPOC, LGBTQQUIA+, and differently abled people.
Dr. Keith completed her clinical training at Lynchburg College in 2008 in the CACREP Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. She graduated with a master's in education and completed licensure requirements in Virginia in 2013 (VA license: 0701005500). Dr. Keith completed additional training in Virginia Tech's PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision program in 2018 where she graduated with honors.
From the initial contact the focus is on building a non-judgmental, therapeutic relationship that offers unconditional positive regard. During this building phase Dr. Keith focuses on learning about your story and journey, while helping you identify those places and spaces where therapy will focus. Once areas of focus have been identified, Dr. Keith will introduce mindfulness, therapeutic connection to self, and advanced trauma treatments to work toward holistic healing and integration.
In order to address trauma, painful experiences, and negative thought patterns, Dr. Keith incorporates mindfulness based practices, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, and Ego State Therapy. Our worlds are not one dimensional and require that we address the multiple ways in which we absorb information. Our complex internal worlds are best envisioned through parts of self and the integration of parts work into therapy is an important step to achieving healing and integration.
